Yes, I’m a Writer. No, I Can’t Write Fiction
Have you heard of NaNoWriMo? National Novel Writing Month started in 1999 as a challenge – write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. It’s now a non-profit organization to provide support for people to become novelists.
Every year I look at NaNoWriMo. Every year, I think about doing it. A couple of times, I even tried it.
It’s painful. Seriously.
Now, I like nonfiction, but I love fiction. I read novels like people watch movies. Short stories are my binges.
When it comes to writing, it’s the exact opposite. I can put out a blog post in an hour or so. I can write an essay for school in a day (not including research). Give me an email or a letter to whip into shape, I got you.
Writing fiction? Please don’t make me. It gives me writer’s block. And I don’t even know if I believe in writer’s block.
I’ve come to accept the fact that I can’t write everything. So I stick with what I can.
If you find writing your blog or your social media painful, send it my way. I got you.
Just please, don’t ask me to write a short story. It’s just not a good look for anybody.
