To AI or not to AI – Depends on Your Goals
To AI or not to AI – that is the question.
For many people, AI seems to be their dream come true. It might enable them to create a lot of content very easily, and very quickly. They just plug a few words in about the topic they want, and just copy, paste, and post!
Look, I admit it – I’ve used AI. It’s a great tool to generate ideas of what to write when you’re stuck. It can even give a halfway decent first draft. But when I read what it writes, it sounds like the most generic dross ever written. It sounds like the hold music that banks use. It sounds like the rap lyrics they use in Target or Walmart commercials.
It sounds like a mediocre white American man.
Which, actually, makes sense. The way AI generally works is by scouring the internet, taking the most common and likely words and phrases about a topic, and putting them together into a comprehensive article. And, most of what the engine has access to is – the writing of white American men.
That’s the issue I have with AI writing (and AI art for that matter). It just doesn’t feel real. It feels…off. Plastic. It’s like getting a huge bouquet of roses – that are fake.
AI-generated content is fast and easy. You can create a lot of content quickly and cheaply (even free!), and get it out there.
But it will never sound like you.
For some people, that’s OK! They don’t need it to sound like them. They just want content on their page. They just want posts on their social media. They just need to put something out there.
However, think about this…
How do you want your voice represented in the larger world? How do you want people to get to know you and who you are? Do you want your services to sound like everything else that’s out there? Do you want your business to sound like a mediocre white man?
Or do you want your business to sound like you?
